One challenge we face is to learn to be honest with ourselves. It can become very easy to surrender to self-deception, but the more we insist that we will remain honest, the easier it becomes to live by this rule. We must be honest with ourselves in order to see the world around us more clearly. Being honest with ourselves is an important component of discernment. When we are honest and our mind is open, we can use the ability to discern or understand the thoughts and feelings that rule our lives. Discernment helps us to begin to know what our thoughts do to our emotions, what our thoughts are, how they came into our mind, and how they work. When we are honest with ourselves, we can begin to understand and work on the thought patterns that try to destroy the peace within our minds. It is also important to be honest with others in order to have good relationships.
Romans 12:17 Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.
Exo. 23:7 Keep thee far from a false matter: and the innocent and righteous slay thou not: for I will not justify the wicked.
Lev. 19:11 Ye shall not steal, neither deal falsely, neither lie one to another.
My Prayer for Today
God, Please help me to be honest. To create an honest mind within me, fill me with your spirit of honesty, discernment (our mindful judgment of our thoughts), love, and anger against evil. Amen
