The Security Blanket – Devotion 1
Ever feel like you just need something that feels comforting to hold on to when things are not going so well?
There are many things and times in our lives when we feel kind of “out of sort”, lonely, unloved, afraid or hurt in some way. We want to feel secure, to be sure we will be alright even though we may not feel like that at this time.
As children, our comfort comes from someone who loves us very much: such as our parent(s), our grandparents, our care taker or other relatives we might have in our lives. When we get hurt our mother or our care taker might hug us and pat our backs or even kiss our little finger that got hurt. Sometimes they may need to put a band aid and some medicine on a cut to help keep it clean and to heal it. These touches come to us in a loving, comforting way that helps us recover more quickly. The band aid and medicine do some of the work of healing but more importantly it is the love and kindness that allows us to actually feel secure and comforted.
