A deep discussion about God’s holy power and good spirit as well as the Lucifer’s unholy spirit. God has given us holy spirit, but He has not given us evil spirit. God tells us in Leviticus 11:45 “be ye holy as I am holy”. God is a spirit and He is holy! The commandment is to be holy as God is holy. We are not completely holy, because during our lives, we have gotten some messed up thoughts or knowledge (spirit) within the mind. We may not have heard these messed up or bad thoughts being called evil spirit before. Evil spirit is corrupted spirit. We can overcome bad thoughts or bad spirit through God’s grace. Jesus brought us power over unclean spirit, to cast it out through the power of grace. God gives us power over all the power of the enemy. God’s spirit is only holy. Galatians talks about some of the fruits of God’s spirit and it is holy spirit. Galatians 5:22-23 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. We can grow some of this holy spirit in our mind. 2 Tim 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
God did not give us any of the bad thoughts we have but gave us a sound mind. Proverbs 18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof. This tells us death and life are in the power of the tongue and another scripture in Romans talks about death from sin. Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Jesus said, “My words are spirit and are life”. Some words can bring life to us and others carry sin, or death. We are not born in sin. Sin gets born in us through unclean thoughts we take in. This sin, or evil spirit was not given to mankind by God. It is the product of the Devil, or Lucifer. It may seem strange to hear about evil spirit.
It may seem very strange to talk about evil spirit because of books and movies that make it look like a witchcraft kind of thing or something spooky or mysterious. God does not keep a mystery from us that there are angels that kept not their first estate. Those corrupted beings do exist. Jude 1:6 And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. We were not born with evil spirit but were made up of holy spirit. During our lives, when we took in evil thoughts or evil spirit, we took in sin. In Genesis we see that serpent beguiled Eve. God told Adam and Eve not to eat of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. But the serpent tricked Eve and she ate of the serpent’s words. Adam and Eve did not immediately die, but they did begin to digress after they took in those evil thoughts from the devil or Lucifer. That father of the lie (the devil) is the one that originated evil spirit. We can overcome evil with good by discerning between good thoughts and evil thoughts and using the power of grace to cast it out.
